October 28th, 2017, the THS FFA chapter put on our 1st annual tractor pull. This tractor pull gave us a great opportunity to raise money for our chapter and to learn new skills. The skills we learned during this fundraiser were how to market the tractor pull and sell tickets, we learned advertisement skills, and customer service skills. We raised over $20,000 in funding from this one event. As a chapter, we look forward to making this an annual event and getting more of our community involved! Thank you to everyone who came out and supported!
On October 12th around 20 freshman members attended the Greenhand Leadership Conference. The Greenhand Leadership Conference helps set freshman on the right path in FFA as they have the opportunity to get advice from older, more experienced FFA members. They get to meet new people from other chapters and see what they have done with their FFA time. The events that were held helped members understand what SAE and CDE projects were and pointed them in the right direction to pursue a career in agriculture. The Greenhand Leadership Conference helped members understand the true meaning of FFA. Our freshmen members were excited to get involved after the amazing and fun learning experience at GLC.
In the October meeting, we had a costume competition and a pumpkin carving contest. The costume competition consisted of all of the officers and many members, dressing up in funky outfits ranging from an old couple to and inflatable princess. There was even a Yoda! After the costume competition, the winners all received candy gift baskets. Next, we all headed down from the multi purpose room, where the meeting was held, to the wood shop where we got to carve pumpkins using our creativity into whatever we wished and a winner was chosen. All in all this meeting was a wonderful experience.
